    This platform enhances the skills of health professionals across the African Region through interactive, high-quality training modules. Developed with support from the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa, the Burden of Disease Research Unit of the South African Medical Research Council, and the Centre for Community Technologies at Nelson Mandela University, it provides a customized e-learning environment. The platform specifically targets training in Medical Certification of Cause of Death (MCCoD) and related data analysis, addressing unique regional needs.

    The MCCoD Training Course equips health professionals with the knowledge and skills needed for accurate certification of causes of death, ensuring consistency and reliability in mortality data.

    The Data Analysis Course, will empower learners to analyze health data effectively, offering tools for data visualization and interpretation to support evidence-based decision-making.

    With user-friendly design and continuous support, this platform is your gateway to mastering critical health information system skills and advancing public health outcomes.

This assessment is based on the Improving Cause of Death Reporting e-learning modules provided by the Burden of Disease Research Unit of the South African Medical Research Council, in partnership with the Centre for Community Technologies, Nelson Mandela University and the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa

At the conclusion of the e-learning modules, the participants should be able to:

  1. Explain the importance of the correct certification of cause of death
  2. Understand their role in producing reliable cause of death statistics
  3. Correctly complete a death certificate
  4. Know the certification guidelines for special cases such as:
    • Deaths due to injuries, Maternal deaths and Perinatal deaths
  5. Understand the utility of the International Classification of Diseases 11th revision (ICD-11) and be familiar with the digital tools available for clinical coding
  6. Apply the basic ICD-11 mortality and morbidity coding rules
